Nicotye is fascinated by patterns and arrangements of disparate objects in nature and man-made materials. Many of her drawings depict everyday items such as the contents of a pantry shelf, a table of shiny fishing lures or boxes of camping supplies. Nicotye has had her original drawings shown at the Toronto Art Fair and in 2013 her work was featured in an Italian publication, ‘Annie e le Altre’, an ambitious scholastic study that explored the role of women artists in Cape Dorset.
The Office of Gilbert Li was asked to design a publication as a part of /edition art book fair which was entering its second year. I had the pleasure of coming up with overall design, choosing the printed materials and binding techniques. The 52 page book measures 6 × 8 inches and was printed as a limited edition of 150. The work is printed on uncoated paper with thread sewn binding. The cover was screen printed on Mohawk’s potato sctarch infused Curious Matter paper in Adiron Blue, which added an extra tactile feel. A copy of the book can be purchased through /edition.
